Preparing for a Visit
Questions to ask when visiting a care home
A visit is less about completing a scorecard and more about noticing how a place feels, while gathering clear answers.
Before you go
- Write down what matters most in an ordinary day.
- Think about preferred routines, food, interests and relationships.
- Invite the person exploring care into every decision they can make.
While you are there
- Notice how people speak to one another.
- Ask how individual routines and preferences are understood.
- Request clear written details about fees and services.
After the visit
- Compare notes somewhere calm.
- List anything that still needs confirming.
- Take time before deciding on a next step.
